Well with a Grille - Small Square, Old Town
Small Square, Old Town
In the centre of Malé náměstí there is an original, still functional, fountain from 1560, protected by a hand-made wrought grille, made most likely by court locksmith J. Schmidhammer. This coloured hand-made wrought grille is probably the oldest one in the whole Prague and is an example of exceptional craftsmanship. It is adorned with ornaments and figures of angels on the edges, the figure of Czech lion was added to its top in the 17th century. Allegedly there used to be best quality water in Prague in the past.
